Reporting boundaries

This report aims to provide a rigorous, fair and transparent account of our business, in a form that enables stakeholders to understand Standard Chartered, our industry and the social and economic impact of banking. It provides an overview of our policy framework and position statements, management systems, performance and engagements for the 12-month period from 1 January 2010 to end-December 2010. Limited data for previous years is included to enable trend analysis and provide evidence of our commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability performance. Data and narrative accounts in this report are based on information from all of our Group operations worldwide.

Content in this report was informed by legal and regulatory requirements as well as best practice standards including: the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines, the GRI Financial Services Sector Supplement; the Equator Principles; the Carbon Disclosure Project and the United Nations Global Compact (of which Standard Chartered is a signatory). Further insight on our adherence to these and other standards and guidelines is presented throughout this report. This report also functions as our annual Communication on Progress to the United Nations Global Compact.
